Running
Activities
I have been a regular distance runner for 20 years, but just got into a serious program in August, 1997 with Austin Fit. About 600 of us trained for six months, meeting every Saturday morning for seminars and long, coached runs, and were assigned routines for the following week. We also took part in races, especially those listed as being in "The Series", which culminated in the Motorola Marathon on February 13, 1998. I completed "The Series" with about 350 others to win a very nice running jacket, as well as a FINISHERs medal for the Marathon. Not bad for 65 years!
I finished the second Marathon on February 14, 1999!! This completed the "Series" again, and this year we got a great-looking blue Nike all-purpose jacket (with RunTex 101 Challenge seal). RunTex is the premier supplier of running gear and sponsor of races in Texas, maybe in the US and beyond. Austin is the greatest running town you can imagine!
I finished the third Marathon on February 20, 2000 (02/20/2000). Following is a chart showing some times and distances in recent months, and a map of the area where I run, with different streets and direction selected each time.

Still
going strong(er). Possible goal is 900 miles for the year. We run
farther on weekends, slowly improving min/mile.
We are getting a second Airedale, born 8/2 at Shamrock, TX. She won't run
until January. She will be more company
for both Sweetheart and me. 500 miles on 8/27.

Chart of runs last year.
We made 1,231 miles on 12/31 (paired numbers). We made our goal of over 2 MILLION steps!
I think we will slow down a bit next year to about 20 miles per week,
or 1,040 miles. I will be double-7 this year and am trying some other
exercises.
Doggy provides the motivation for daily outings, always full of energy and ready
to go.
